Hailing from Los Angeles, Phylliss Bailey Brooks, is a true multi-hyphenate, not only is she a theatrical director-producer, but an actor, vocalist and performance coach. She is grateful to keep extremely busy with each of them!
She has served as director/producer, musical director, and/or vocal director/arranger for over 200 stage and TV projects. Her latest directing credits, include stage classics, PETER PAN, and INTO THE WOODS, along with new classics THE LION KING Jr, and ALADDIN at LA’s Mastad Theatre. She also directed the award-winning GIL SCOTT-HERON’S BLUESOLOGY at the famed Off-Broadway SoHo Playhouse in New York.
As a performer, she honors the work of each and every thespian under her tutelage, because she's put in the work herself... She has traveled the world entertaining diverse audiences with her critically-acclaimed one woman show. Phylliss was thrilled to have been booked by Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL ), as a traveling entertainer with her stage act, opening for such performing greats as Ellen DeGeneres and Joan Rivers.
Her early career climb, while still a Television Arts student at USC, took her behind the camera as a part of TV legend Norman Lear’s sitcom camp. She eventually elevated to several production positions for multiple seasons on his iconic, historic and award-winning shows, such as: ALL IN THE FAMILY (CBS), DIFF’RENT STROKES (NBC/ABC), FACTS OF LIFE (NBC), GOOD TIMES (CBS), MAUDE (CBS) and THE JEFFERSONS (CBS). Other noted shows she's worked on include two trailblazing and award-winning sketch comedies respectively in primetime and late night—IN LIVING COLOR (Fox) and MADTV (Fox), as well as Nickelodeon's popular primetime live action series, THE THUNDERMANS.
In addition to her performer and production work, Phylliss is a sought after acting coach. Most recently she was the acting coach for Jordyn Macintosh on the groundbreaking comedy-drama UNPRISIONED (Hulu) starring Emmy-winning actor-producer, Kerry Washington. Phylliss has also worked as a dialogue/acting coach to select cast on the comedy juggernaut, BLACKish (ABC). To say the least, her extensive and varied TV experience has also been invaluable to her as a performer and a director, working with some of the very best in the craft. She is thrilled to serve her artistic community, whether behind-the-scenes, in-front-of-the-camera or on-the-stage...
