Marc Gerard Broyard was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is a tenor vocalist, composer, visual and performance artist and writer.

 

Mr. Broyard was seen most recently in the collaborative Jazz performance piece OUT/Dolphy & Mingus at The World Stage in Leimert Park, California with frequent collaborator Roger Guenveur Smith.  For the national stage Broyard has created and performed the critically acclaimed stage play, Inside the Creole Mafia with Obie Award winning actor/playwright Roger Guenveur Smith. Creole Mafia was most recently seen at Southern Repertory Theater New Orleans, Disney’s REDCAT Theatre in Los Angeles and Dillard University New Orleans as well as venues from New York to San Francisco. The play was recognized by the LOS ANGELES TIMES as a Top Ten Theatre Production and nominated for an NAACP Theatre Award. The play was also recognized by the L.A. WEEKLY for Best Ensemble Performance and Revival Production of the year.

 

As a visual artist, Mr. Broyard has exhibited his culturally-themed assemblages at the California African-American Museum Los Angeles, The Museum of Contemporary African-American Diasporan Art Brooklyn, Hampton University Museum, the Santa Monica Museum of Art, Stella Jones Gallery New Orleans and other galleries across the country. His work has been featured in The International Review of African-American Art, Gulf Coast Review and can be found in many public and private collections.

 

Mr. Broyard’s essay “Growing Up Creole” was recently published in Family Affair, What It Means to be African-American Today by Gil L. Robertson, IV.  He has also been featured in The Great Deluge by historian Douglas Brinkley, No Crystal Stair by Lynell George,  One Drop by novelist Bliss Broyard and The Afro-Kosmic Ark of Ben Caldwell by Robeson Taj Frazier.

 

Broyard is in constant demand as a tenor vocal soloist in and around Los Angeles. He performed several seasons with The Albert McNiel Jubilee Singers, the Hollywood Chorale and has directed choirs throughout the archdiocese of Los Angeles. He has worked with such Jazz greats as Vi Redd, Harold Land, Azar Lawrence, Teddy Edwards, Charles Love and collaborated with Aeros and Robert Pierce, Branford Marsalis, and others. Accompanied by concert pianist Dr. Lorenzo Sanchez he has performed art songs by both African-American and Latin composers from Los Angeles to Guadalajara, Mexico.

 

Mr. Broyard is married to visual artist Alicia Galindo, the father of three and grandfather to one and one on the way.  He lives in Culver City, California.
