Ms. Gia Scott-Heron, also known to her friends and fans as “Miss Gia”, has been spitting her special brand of "edutainment" as an award-winning spoken-word artist, as well as a recording artist, slam poet, rapper, singer and songwriter living in Los Angeles, where she was born and raised.
She’s actually been writing songs and poetry since the age of 10. So, it’s not a surprise that she not only studied English/world literature and creative writing, but graduated with honors from top-ranked Pitzer College. Since then, she’s become a multi-hyphenate force. Her acclaimed live performances have been held across the country at many venues/events, from the famed World Stage in L.A. to the National Poetry Slam in Boston. She’s also a recording artist, with "Soultree" being her debut project of poetry set to music. In addition, she’s written three books of poetry: Introducing Me; Scott Free; and Contagias.
She continues to expand her coveted hyphenate status, recently adding Off-Broadway performing and producing credits, after a run at New York City's Tony Award-winning Soho Playhouse with “Gil Scott-Heron Bluesology”. She is the co-producer and featured artist of the award-winning theatrical tribute, created out of the love for her late legendary father, also a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award winner and a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee. The critically-acclaimed production is based on the work of the beloved "bluesologist" (also considered the “Godfather of Rap”), and was developed in conjunction with her friends, including its award-winning producer, Tuesday Conner, as well as the Off-Broadway production’s director, Phyllis Bailey Brooks. "Gil Scott-Heron Bluesology" is also a bit full circle for Miss Gia, because over the years at times she'd open for her dad at his own live shows—even singing back-up.
Throughout her career, Miss Gia has been covered across media platforms, from the LA Times to Emmy-winning PBS series, "Artbound" to Broadway World to the historic Amsterdam News. She's also been a featured guest on many radio shows around the nation, from the Peabody Award-winning KPFK 90.7 FM in Los Angeles to the renowned “Voice of Harlem”, WHCR 90.3 FM.
Miss Gia's last album, "The Difference" is available for streaming on most streaming platforms. She’s also currently developing: her next album, her memoir titled, “Pieces of a Dad”, and her event series, “Be The Revolution” to honor her father.
“The Revolution will be Live!”
